So I Got Tired of Winderz Telling Me My Win7 Was “Not Genuine”. More Idiocy from MicroCrud….

IT-operations-computer-crash-worriedSo late Thursday night my Windows 7, which is the base system that this virtual server runs on top of, began to notify me that my copy of Win7 was not genuine. Considering that I have had this Dell for almost a year it seemed a bit silly to me. But I did spend the standard 8-9 hours trying to fix the issue. I checked for viruses, I checked for malware and I looked through all the server logs.

I finally realized that since the server runs on a Virtual Machine, that all I need do is reinstall Windows 7 onto the PC and then reinstall VMWare. Then move the backup file into the correct directory from last night’s backup and, yeah…it’s all good again!

Sometimes it simply pays to go right for the easy solution and have a spare 400+ gb free drive space….

So something was Crashing the Server Here….China to be Exact.

IT-operations-computer-crash-worriedSo for about a week now I have been getting database errors and server crashes randomly. Then I finally checked the different sites here and did a bit of research (meaning I checked my emails). I noticed a huge increase in comments posted on the Trump2016 site, which is supposed to have an admin watching over it, but that is another story. I checked the IP of the incoming comments and realized we were being spammed all to hell and guess where all the comments came from? Yeah, China, as usual, all from one IP segment with a few different last octet addresses.

So I edited that site to only accept comments from registered users and blocked the entire segment from the server. Problem solved? Probably for now, but they will keep trying I am sure. I really do hate Chinese scumbag spammers….bastards!

So You Have Decided To Run Your Very Own VM and Host Your Own Site…and Then the Power Goes Out….Not a Big Deal…Really!

7728373_GSo you have decided to host your own website in much the same fashion as I do. I applaud you for your determination and for your ability to see beyond the corporate hosting stucture!

Of course, eventually, because you are a single point of contact on the interweb, just as I am, your site might drop off the radar when the power drops out. I know, that is not normal for you East/West coast, big city jackasses, but in the rest of the USA it does happen.

So what do I do to bring my website(s) back online here in the land of Daniel Boone and backwards thinking?  Well….I use Wake on Lan…yeah an APP on Google Play to wake the PC up  once the power has been restored.Wake onLAN Then I use another FREE app called Teamviewer to control my sorry ass Windows 7 machine and re-fire the Linux VM.

Sorry the site was down for a bit today, but on the other hand we have more RAM!

transcend-jm667qlu-2g-400x400-imad4fzrxdn5kn8qSo last night I increased the overall virtual server ram available to about 3.35 gb, which is an increase of roughly 500 mb from the previous total available memory.

I would like to report that it is making the server run much better, except for the fact that the cable company dropped off the internet late this afternoon.

But in truth, all things being equal, the site (and associated sites), should run faster, and have far less delays than previously.

Stephen Colbert, Yogi Berra and an Oryx All walk into a Bar…what do they all have in common?

Question-MarkWell it is pretty damned simple, 3 of the top trending names on the inter-web have failed to take advantage of our free WordPress hosting here!

It’s simply boggles the mind that folks don’t just just click on those demo links and at least “try” to setup a WordPress site.

But of course, that is simply the opinion of the guy running this site. Perhaps I should charge $1.00/month and I would get more attention? ……    …nahhhhhh!
